Dress to impress

Kategori: Designers

Party dresses are a girls best friend - and weekends!

OR everything that blings! I just saw Ocean´s 8 again and I got inspired by the fashion, dresses, in the movie.

I feel like cinderella here yeaaaaarniiiiing to wear an expensive luxurious dress at a fancy event! Meet a prince perhaps, or just feel like a damn princess for a night!

I don't want to settle. I want everything I point at, if only for a day.... sigh.. money doesn't buy happiness but it would help ME. I wouldn't feel so crappy if I wore a Balmain dress in a fantastic venue with glammed up decorations and upbeat music... Where can I find a fairy godmother? xD

One thing is set in stone, I will have at least one silly expensive and knock-out dress in my wardrobe before I turn 50!

I wanna die in a party dress from Halpern! Or this one from Zuhair Murad

see you at the afterparty in heaven' haha. No... that's not so encouraging.

Well since I don't have one I found some fairy helpers online: Lyst, Net-a-porter, Revolve, Forward, Matchesfashion, Farfetch and Outnet. Here are some picks.

I'll do a lot for a piece from ALDO

I first noticed the brand when I was searching for new cool accessories. I fell in love, I wanted more and more, it became an addiction searching, looking, dreaming, wanted to try them all! Dressing up in these pieces I would feel like a fierce fairy, which is unexpected but very awesome.

I have never been an accessory-liking girl! I barely wear earrings. No rings, no bracers... nothing. Sometimes for work or a party, sure. So to be able to fall this hard for a brand with flower and romance theme... it's strange. I am attracted to the colors and themes of my childhood. The girly girl I was back then. More flowers and colors I say, for the future!

Go BIG or go home. I think accessories are here, on us, to be seen!

3 Swedish designers you didn't know about

Rebecca Björnsdotter

Rebecca Björnsdotter’s surname translates into “bear’s daughter”. And this epitomizes the brand. Every collection, every shoe and every tiny detail is thought out to make women feel brave, empowered, beautiful and strong as a bear. Imagine how honoured and delighted the crew was to see iconic women such as Lady Gaga, Josephine Skriver, Caroline Vreeland and Icona Pop step into the camera lens wearing pieces from the capsule collection!

see her shoe collection here

K-OURAGE

Given the state of the world, it’s important to be brave. To have courage.

We believe fashion must have the courage to take a stand, to question and clearly stand up for it’s values.

We believe in equal value for all, cosmopolitan thinking, generosity, justice and humanity.

We believe in classic garments with modern silhouettes.

We believe in garments that fit women’s different bodies.

That’s why we call our brand K-OURAGE with a hyphen. To bind together, not creating distance. Welcoming, not turning our backs.

Courage and fashion!

Some thoughts on the Fall 2018 couture fashion...

Hey readers!

I can't help myself but to think of colder times. We all do, I guess?

By looking at the fabolous runway couture I get so inspired. But I don't dare to wear it in this small town haha. Too bad. I wish couture was available for everyone/cheaper.

So here are some picks from the runway! After I looked through the top shows I can summarize what you need with a few words:

  • Fur coats and dresses
  • Big jewlery/accessories
  • Deconstructed and classic classic suit pieces
  • Fringes
  • Different kind of fabrics! Soft and hard ones. Volume and elegance
  • Ornaments
  • Color! Classic black and white, red, white, grey or neon pink etc, yellow, green etc.
  • Feathers, lots of them
  • Metallic colors
  • Patterns - stripes, dots, text etc.

ALBERTA FERRATI

She seem to focus on black, white, silver and red/orange/sunset colors. Fringes yaaay I love it, and rhinestones/sequins.

Drama, bold, beautiful, androgenous. Superstar quality.

GIAMBATISTA VALLI

This collection made me smile. Both of joy and wonder. One of the dresses looks like King Kongs fur haha. Not my fav. but some items are very creative and nice.

It made me think of a mix of birds, suits, history, the 80s, stylish grandma, girly dreams and paraschutes. CRAZY :D

And I saved my favorite to finish this long post! Omg what a talented and awesome designer!

Shoes for queens

Shoes for US!

I am so happy for creative designers and amazing shoes! Shoes are art. Walking art that makes the owner happier, confident and hopefully not in pain. I love heels because they make me longer and my legs look great.

Heels make me strut and walk with more confidence and I would love to buy a new shoe wardrobe for this summer! I mean... just LOOK at these beauties! How can you NOT fall in love and now I feel sad about online shopping. My patience wouldn't last for long if I couldn't try them on and touch the fabric. Daydreaming is cheaper haha :p

Sweden presents: Stylein

Hi, finally February! In Sweden we celebrate 'fettisdag' and we eat semlor. But the day after is Valentine so go easy on the indulgement haha. Or not!! Another month has gone by and we're closer to spring, closer than before at least and everywhere you go, stores invite you to the new fashion. I started to think about swedish design... I read about Stylein in a magazine, Elle I think, and became curious.

"Stylein is a Swedish fashion brand, founded in 2001 by designer Elin Alemdar. The first hand tailored collection was created while Elin was working as a stylist during her studies at Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in New York City.

Stylein combines a timeless yet contemporary design expression, creating fashion for all occasions. Scandinavian minimalism, fine fabrics and a perfect fit are all essential elements."

I'm new to this, I don't lie about it. I don't know every brand in my country or the world.. yet. I found stylein and if you like minimalism this is the brand for you!

Best of - Chanel Pre-Fall 2018 Collection

Her name is legendary and the brand is well known world wide to say at least. I like the chic jackets and skirts for work but I must admit I am quite new to the fashion brand today. Chanel, for me, stands for high class, a classic feminine style with a lady boss statement. 1920's length on clothes and white pearl necklaces.

When I saw this new collection on Vouge.com, I could almost smell wet by rain concrete on big city streets; salty winds from the ocean and feel the fabric of wool from uniforms underneath my fingers... Chanel's theme is clear as day and I like the mix and history behind them. It's flirting with the old and the new and I would love to wear the jackets and coats any day no matter the occasion. Timeless fashion. Powerful and chic.

Here are my favorites:

The jackets & coats

The pants

The knitwear

Classic Chanel

If you doubt yourself, ask yourself, what would Coco wear?

Japanese fashion and design

Konnichiwa!

I love Japan and I can't wait to go there one day, especially Kyoto since I am a huge fan of the geisha. I can talk for hours about their dresses, education, culture... but I won't. I also love the street style in Tokyo, so cool, creative, daring and youthful! Especially Harajuku district but also in the music industry.

I found some street style photos so if you're new to the japanese fashion here is your chance to see for yourself (Pinterest).

While looking for Japanese designers I stumbled upon a few names of importance:

Kansai Yamamoto

(Lous Vuitton Resort 2018)

"Kansai Yamamoto served as both muse and collaborator for Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest outing at Vuitton, creating classic Japanese art and Kabuki-inspired patterns and prints for the Cruise collection. Yamamoto was a pioneer in Japanese fashion design and gained worldwide fame after taking his wares outside of his home country to London and Paris and later, dressing a legendary music star in looks that would become synonymous with his stage presence and offbeat sartorial allure. "

YUMI KATSURA

"Yumi Katsura presented her new couture collection “The awakening of nature“, autumn-winter 2017-2018 in Paris. A collection inspired by two Japanese artists Kiitsu Suzuki and Sotatsu Tawaraya, valuing Japanese crafts. The love of tradition and modernism will blend without compromise"

Yohji Yamamoto

"We often take for granted the gray area between a piece of clothing being on or off, open or closed; but Yamamoto’s ideas are never black or white, even if they present exactly that way on the surface."

Kenzo

"Act Two depicted girls whose looks toggled between vintage and future thanks to deconstructed patchwork dresses and optical separates like frilled bike shorts that looked great under boxy, double-breasted blazers and oversize shirting"

Ryotamurakami

See the fashion show here

Yoshiki Hanzawa

"PERMINUTE is a fashion label born in Tokyo in 2016 by YOSHIKI HANZAWA. He stayed in Fukushima prefecture until his boyhood and then moved to Tokyo to learn fashion. After studied for 4 years at BUNKA FASHION COLLEGE and coconogacco He started his own project at 23 years old. PERMINUTE develops collections focusing on the diversity of life through unique cutting and material experiments"

Yuma Koshino

"Expressing energy of sensibility unique to women in a pleasantly comfortable design, and obtaining broad support"

Akira Isogawa

"AKIRA ISOGAWA IS ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S MOST ICONIC DESIGNERS. BORN IN KYOTO JAPAN, AKIRA MOVED TO AUSTRALIA IN 1986 WHERE HE STUDIED FASHION DESIGN AT THE SYDNEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM CONTEMPORARY JAPANESE DESIGN"

Tae Ashida

"Attended high school at Le Rosey in Switzerland, and university at Rhode Island School of Design in America. 1991 Debut as an independent designer in charge of “miss ashida”. 2012 Autumn: Awarded the Special Prize by FECJ (Fashion Editors’ Club of Japan). 2016 Celebrated her 25th anniversary as a designer. An active designer with an elegant and modern style"

Some designers are inspired by Japan and a japanese theme, for example...

Bibhu Mohapatra

I could wear all the outfits from this collection...! I love the style, colors, details. How much for a piece? $2,180 - $5,590? approx.

If you want to wear a short modern kimono it's easy and chic. Either as a jacket, a top, as a dress and/or with kimono sleaves. All kimonos are from asos.com.
